Break Down Your Goals

The worst thing that you can do is to look at your final goal, and only your final goal. Sure, it’s where you want to end up, but the truth is that it isn’t attainable in the short term.

This can easily cause you to lose hope as you are constantly working towards a goal which is too far away.

Instead, look for smaller goals along the way. For example, if you are looking to lose a certain amount of body weight, then break it up into sections and apportion it over the course of months. Now, instead of working towards losing 60 pounds, you can work towards achieving three lots of 20 pounds. Whatever your goal is, look for smaller goals which you can use to keep you motivated on your fitness journey.

Give Yourself Rewards

Along with the first tip, be sure to give yourself a small reward each time that you reach a goal. For example, a new dress or a voucher from the Groupon Coupons page for M&Ms can be a great way to pick up a small gift to keep your motivation levels up and to keep you on target.

Of course, whatever your reward, be sure you can see it every day to keep yourself on track. Too many people buy a new dress or pair of pants in their goal-weight size and then simply put them away in the closet where they can’t provide any ongoing motivation.

Make It Public

It’s easy to give up on a fitness plan if nobody else knows about it and you aren’t accountable to anybody for the results. With this in mind, tell everybody that you can about your goals.

For example, tell your friends at work as you all prepare lunch so that they are all aware of what you are eating. Be sure to tell your family so that they can comment on the great progress you are making along the way to keep your motivation levels up. If you have any friends who have been through the process, be sure to include them in your progress and keep them updated with how you are going so they can continue to support you and to keep you on track.
